Graphical Modeling and Animation of Fracture

چکیده
Acknowledgments I would like to thank my family, friends, and colleagues who provided me with their friendship and support during my time in graduate school. My parents and family were, and continue to be, a constant source of encouragement. They inspired me to set ambitious goals for myself, and they heartened me when those goals seemed distant. The members of the GVU Center, especially the other students in the Animation Lab and Geometry Group, created the camaraderie that made long hours in the lab often seem more like play than work. They were there to lend a hand when deadlines loomed all too near, and to lend an ear when deadlines seemed all too many. I am deeply grateful to my advisor, Jessica Hodgins, who's excellent advice and example were invaluable; and to the members of my committee, Greg Turk, Irfan Essa, Jarek Rossignac, and Demetri Terzopoulos, who provided insightful criticism and direction. I am also thankful to Jim Foley and Norberto Ezquerra who helped to set me on the right track during my first years of graduate school. Finally, and most importantly, I thank my wife, Heather. Her patient love, support, and companionship form the foundation on which my accomplishments have been built.

Deformable Object Modeling Using the Time-Dependent Finite Element Method
Continuum mechanics and the finite element method are used as basic tools to facilitate the animation of deformable objects. Two unique features in this paper are: (1) introduction of a framework for 3-D finite interface elements to deal with object interaction and (2) a simple approach to handle fracture propagation inside objects. Animation sequences have been constructed, and they indicate t...
متن کاملGraphXica: a Language for Graphical Animation of Models
The objective of this article is to present GraphXica – a Domain Specific Language (DSL) for graphical animation of models. GraphXica enables to describe graphical representations of models and their animations. Given a graphical representation and animation description of the model, different kinds of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) can be generated to simulate it, for example a web based int...

Cognitive modeling for games and animation explores the provocative but largely uncharted interface between computer graphics and artificial intelligence. That interface is now on the verge of explosive growth as a new breed of highly autonomous, quasi-intelligent graphical characters begins to populate the domains of production animation, game development, and multimedia content creation, as w...
متن کاملA framework for modeling, animating, and morphing textured implicit models
This paper presents a framework for modeling, animating and morphing textured implicit models. Our hierarchical skeletal implicit surface model incorporates key-frame animation and procedural solid texturing in a unified and coherent way. Our system enables the designer to create complex special effects by synchronizing shape, animation and texture transformations.
متن کاملA General Specification for Scene Animation
This paper presents the foundations of IBAL, a general specification for scene animation. IBAL regulates interactions among graphical elements, such as geometric models and behavioral algorithms, to describe animated scenes. Interactions among graphical elements are managed by primitives which are arranged into three graphs. The three graphs logically partition an animation into “who,” “what,” ...
